John Magilligan.

John Magilligan, a well-known builder, died at his residence, 56 Berkeley place, last evening, in his 77th year. He was born in Dungiven, County Derry, Ireland, in 1830, and came to this country in 1851. For some years he worked at his trade as an expert stair builder. In 1860 he became one of the most reliable house builders of Brooklyn, and remained such till his retirement, some eleven years ago, when stricken by paralysis. Most of the fine residences of the Park Slope were built by him and William Flanagan, who died a year ago. It was said of Mr. Magilligan's work that when a man bought a house from him he received a dollar for a dollar. He was known in the building trade as "Honest John." He leaves a widow, three sons and one daughter. His sons are Dr. F. Magilligan of 135 Bergen street, Dr. L. Magilligan of 226 Sixth avenue and John J. Magilligan, who succeeded his father in building. His daughter is a religious Sister St. Agnes of the St. Joseph Community of this diocese, whose specialty is music. He leaves eleven grandchildren. For twenty years he has been a member of St. Francis Xavier parish. He was one of the founders of the parish of which the Rev. D.J. Hickey is rector.

He will be buried from St. Francis Xavier Church, Sixth avenue and Carroll street on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.
